Closed for more than a decade, the Library’s Russell Street heritage entrance has been reopened and re-activated as the Russell Street Welcome Zone, transforming the eastern end of our site.

The Russell Street Welcome Zone is a vibrant space for visitors to meet, collaborate, relax or work; with a small cafe to fuel your energy.

This will be the new home for Readings – 2016 International Bookshop of the Year – with a 60% increase in size to their flagship city store.

The new world-class Victoria Gallery, endowed by the John and Myriam Wylie Foundation, will be easily accessible from this dynamic space, and will provide visitors with a unique exhibition experience.

A new universally accessible entrance on La Trobe Street will also provide easy access to the Victoria Gallery and the eastern end of the Library.

The Isabella Fraser Room, a new special events space, will also be accessible via the Russell Street Welcome Zone, with direct access from the new La Trobe Street entrance.

Almond Milk Co.  have been appointed as the operators of State Library Victoria’s new cafe, Guild.
