Closed for more than a decade, the Library’s Russell Street heritage entrance has been reopened and re-activated as the Russell Street Welcome Zone, transforming the eastern end of our site.

The Russell Street Welcome Zone is a vibrant space for visitors to meet, collaborate, relax or work; with a small cafe to fuel your energy.

This is the new home for Readings – 2016 International Bookshop of the Year – with a 60% increase in size to their flagship city store.

The new world-class Victoria Gallery, endowed by the John and Myriam Wylie Foundation, will be easily accessible from this dynamic space, and will provide visitors with a unique exhibition experience.

A new universally accessible entrance on La Trobe Street provides easy access to the eastern end of the Library and will also enable easy access to Victoria Gallery.

The Isabella Fraser Room, a new special events space, is also accessible via the Russell Street Welcome Zone, with direct access from the new La Trobe Street entrance.

Almond Milk Co.  are the operators of State Library Victoria’s new cafe, Guild.
