The ground floor of the Library will become known as The Quad, connecting all four of the Library's activity courtyards.
The central hub of The Quad is the Trescowthick Information Centre.
Trescowthick Information Centre
The centrally-located Trescowthick Information Centre will be transformed into a contemporary, digitally-enabled space with different styles of furniture and seating to suit individual or collaborative work and study.
Currently this space can be disorienting for visitors – new flooring, ceiling and furniture placement will enhance the navigability of the room and increase the flow to other parts of the Library.
New acoustic treatment and lighting will also greatly enhance the environment.
From the Trescowthick Information Centre, you will be able to access the four indoor courtyards. Each courtyard will be transformed into innovative, dynamic and creative spaces.
They will be:
- Children’s Quarter – a space specially designed for children and families to learn and play
- Conversation Quarter endowed by the Hansen Little Foundation – state-of-the-art technology, staging and lighting for world-class events with live-streaming capability
- Create Quarter – tiered seating and a maker space to enable creativity
- Ideas Quarter – known as ‘Start Space’ dedicated to nurturing and developing entrepreneurs and the creative community
Also accessible from Trescowthick Information Centre will be the Library’s Conference Centre.
Opening spring 2019.
